Giancarlo Casnati lives and works in Rome.
He graduated in Master of Arts in 1979 in Rome and Librarian in 1980 at the School of Librarianship of the Vatican City State, he started working at the Ministero per i Beni Culturali e Ambientali (now MIBACT) as a Librarian at the Biblioteca Statale del Monumento Nazionale di Grottaferrata.
Enlisted as an Officer of the Italian Navy, he held administrative and logistical positions and, as a system analyst, he was involved in the development of software programs and IT procedures at the Navy's IT centers.
He also collaborated with the Department of Italian Studies - Chair of Comparative Languages and Literatures of the University of Tor Vergata in Rome, for the creation on the INTERNET of a database of Italian memorialistic texts (BILF Biblioteca Informatica dei Libri di Famiglia) and has carried out the functions of teacher and tutor in professional training courses, taking care of the production of teaching materials and the design of the classroom. As a trainer, he explored the issues related to the management of classroom training and the cognitive bases of learning related to Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
He has been working with photography since 2000 and graduated Photographer in 2003. He takes his photos in the studio or on location, working with both film and digital cameras and prints his photographs with a digital pigment printer or with an enlarger in the darkroom.
Since 2008 he exhibited in various personal exhibition  and, from 2013 to 2020, he held basic courses in photography (aesthetics and image interpretation) and reportage (from photography to photographic story), organizing the exhibition of the photographs taken by the students.
In 2018 he held, at the Leica Store in Via Due Macelli in Rome, two presentations of her latest photographic works entitled The life and miracles of a Drag Queen. Photographic notes en travesti. (March 7, 2018) and Images from the world of historical reenactment. (June 26, 2018).
He collaborated, as a stage photographer, with the Ugo Betti Theater in Rome, creating a series of photo books dedicated to the shows of the 2019 program.
He currently holds his courses online and organizes outdoor photographic laboratories.
